Road Ledger Privacy Policy

BetaStries (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Road Ledger iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our app.
The short version: Road Ledger stores your data locally on your device. We don’t collect, track, or sell your personal information.
Our Privacy Commitment
Road Ledger is built with privacy as a core principle:
- Local-first design — All data stays on your device by default
- No third-party tracking — Zero third-party analytics SDKs or advertising networks
- No account required — Use the app without signing up or providing personal information
- No ads — We don’t show advertisements or use advertising identifiers
Information Collection
Information You Provide
Road Ledger allows you to store:
- Vehicle information (make, model, year, VIN, license plate)
- Expense records (amounts, categories, dates, notes, receipt photos)
- Mileage and odometer readings
- Income/reimbursement records
- Service and maintenance records
Important: This information is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to it and it is never transmitted to our servers.
Information We Don’t Collect
Road Ledger does not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, address, phone number)
- Location data or GPS tracking
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
Apple App Analytics
We use Apple’s built-in App Analytics to understand how the app is performing. This is Apple’s privacy-preserving analytics service that provides us with aggregate, anonymized data such as:
- App downloads and updates
- App crashes (anonymized crash logs)
- App usage statistics (session counts, retention)
Important: This data is collected and processed by Apple, not by us. It does not include your personal information or any of the data you enter into the app. You can opt out of sharing analytics with developers by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and disabling “Share iPhone Analytics” or “Share with App Developers” on your iOS device.
Data Storage
Local Storage (Default)
By default, all your data is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is protected by your device’s passcode/biometrics
- Is included in your encrypted device backups (if you use iCloud or iTunes backup)
- Is deleted when you delete the app
App Preferences
Settings and preferences (like your selected currency or display options) are stored locally using UserDefaults. This data stays on your device and is deleted when you remove the app.
Optional iCloud Sync (Pro Feature)
Pro users ($4.99 one-time purchase) can optionally enable CloudSync. When enabled:
- Your data is stored in your personal CloudKit container, associated with your Apple ID
- We cannot access your iCloud data — It’s stored in your private iCloud account, not ours
- Data syncs between your devices signed into the same Apple ID
- You can disable iCloud sync at any time from the app settings
- iCloud data follows Apple’s standard privacy policies and retention practices
To manage or delete iCloud data, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Storage on your iOS device.
Network Requests
Road Ledger makes minimal network requests:

We do not make any requests to our own servers, third-party analytics services, or advertising networks.
Third-Party Services
Road Ledger uses only Apple’s first-party services:
Apple App Analytics
- Provides aggregate, anonymized usage and crash data
- Collected and processed entirely by Apple
- We receive only aggregate statistics, not individual user data
- You can opt out in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements
Apple CloudKit
- Used for optional iCloud sync (Pro feature only)
- Data is stored in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy
- We have no access to your CloudKit data
Apple StoreKit
- Processes the Pro upgrade in-app purchase
- We do not receive or store your payment information
- Apple handles all payment processing

No Third-Party SDKs
Road Ledger contains zero third-party SDKs, including:
- ❌ No third-party analytics (Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, etc.)
- ❌ No third-party crash reporting (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
- ❌ No advertising networks (AdMob, Facebook Ads, etc.)
- ❌ No tracking SDKs (Facebook SDK, Adjust, etc.)
Data Security
Your data is protected by:
- Device encryption — iOS encrypts all app data when your device is locked
- Secure storage — SwiftData stores data in your app’s sandboxed container
- iCloud encryption — If you enable CloudSync, data is encrypted in transit and at rest in iCloud
Data Retention
- Local data remains on your device until you delete the app or manually clear data within the app
- iCloud data (if enabled) follows Apple’s standard iCloud data retention policies
- We retain no data because we never receive your data in the first place
Your Rights & Control
You have full control over your data:
Export Your Data
Export all your records to CSV format at any time from within the app. Export options include: - All data - Expenses only - Income/reimbursements only - Service records only
Delete Your Data
- Delete all local data: Use the “Delete All My Data” option in Settings, or simply delete the app
- Delete iCloud data: Disable CloudSync in the app, or manage/delete via iOS Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage
Disable iCloud Sync
If you’ve enabled CloudSync, you can disable it anytime in the app’s Settings. Your local data will remain on your device.
Children’s Privacy
Road Ledger is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is designed for general audiences including professionals who track vehicle expenses. Since all data is stored locally and we don’t collect personal information, there is no data collection from users of any age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Effective Date.” Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
For significant changes, we’ll provide notice through the app or App Store update notes.
